Do's
- Carry ID.Bring the physical ticket or Gold Card and a photo ID for verification at the entry points.
- What should I carry on procession day?Water, a hat, sunscreen, and as little else as possible. Bags are checked at every enclosure; large bags are not allowed in the Palace forecourt.
- Where is the best place to watch for free?Sayyaji Rao Road, anywhere between K R Circle and Bannimantap. Arrive by 1 PM for a front position; the road fills three deep. Carry water and a hat — there is little shade.
- Is there a dress code?No general code. In the Palace Durbar Hall and the temples modest dress is expected and footwear is removed.
- If you lose something — or someoneLost-and-found desks run at the Palace North Gate and beside the Bannimantap stands through the festival, staffed by the police and volunteers. For a missing child, go to the nearest police post or call 112 immediately; every post has a radio link to the control room and the procession-day PA system.
- Parking.Park only at the location marked on your Gold Card, or use the free festival shuttles from the parking hubs. Parking and shuttles
- TongasHorse-drawn tongas — one of the last vestiges of the old city — wait at the Palace and the Zoo. Agree the fare before you board.
- Entry is subject to security.Entry to every venue is subject to security checks, crowd management and the instructions of the police and competent authorities; even with a valid ticket or Gold Card, entry may be restricted on security grounds, and no refund or claim applies in such cases.
- Redeem your voucher. The booking confirmation from TicketGenie is a redemption voucher, not a ticket. Exchange it for your physical ticket or Gold Card before the event, as instructed on the voucher.
- Book accommodation by early September
- Base yourself within the ring road
- Keep 21 October entirely free
Don'ts
- Can I fly a drone? No. The city is a no-drone zone through the festival. Media drones require a police permit issued through the press desk.
- Can I drive into the city on procession day?Not into the centre. From 11 AM on 21 October private vehicles are held at the twelve parking hubs outside the core; free shuttles run every ten minutes. Road closures are listed on the travel page.
